Celebration of Life (Day 22)

Today we had a service to remember you and celebrate your life. I think you would have been pleased with the service. We tried to keep it casual, and a big portion was devoted to allowing time for people to share memories and thoughts.

Even though it was close to Christmas, there was a big turnout - somewhere between 150 and 200 people including a number of folks from your past (Cindy and Eddie, Bronson people, Jason, Dean and Katie Bedford, the Duggans, Jill Grens, Jennifer Cafiero, Kelly Raulerson), and lots of your horse friends (including Patti Tebow, Gretchen Thompson, Michelle, Mary Lou, Tom, Elise, Erica). Almost a dozen people stood up and spoke about you. It was so wonderful to hear the memories and comments that were shared. It was a moving testimony of the positive impact you had on so many people in several different “worlds”.

I shared the story of our marriage and the underlying blessing your cancer provided for us. For you it allowed you to forgive me for past selfishness and put you in the position of needing me; and for me, it forced me to deal with my selfish nature and focus 100% on you and meeting your needs as husband and caretaker.

I will treasure the memories and comments shared publicly and privately to me during and after the celebration from so many people. You were truly loved and respected and you should be proud of the legacy you have left in your girls and other lives that you touched. That is something to celebrate!
