Front Porch Irises (Day 115)

The African Irises we planted in the beds around the side of the house and the front porch are starting to bloom. Unlike the azaleas which pop all at once for a short season of vibrant color, the irises have their own schedule and seem to stagger their display as if to extend their showtime.

Most of the blooms are the white petals with a hint of purple and yellow, although there are some other varieties with different colors mixed in. But those have not yet bloomed.

Just as you intended, the plants along the front of the porch have thrived with their lush green blades growing thick and tall enough to minimize the exposed concrete stem wall but not so high as to cover the porch entirely.

Everywhere I look I see reminders and reflections of you. You worked so hard to make this place beautiful; with your thoughtful planning, energy, and hard work in life, and now infused with your memory and sprinkled ashes. I know that you are gone, but I am thankful that you left so many expressions of yourself here with us.
