Today is Jenna’s 19th birthday and her first since you left us. We are all gathered together in Telluride, CO for our first Thanksgiving without you and we have the bonus of celebrating Jenna’s birthday together in this beautiful place high in the mountains in southwestern Colorado.
A lot has happened to celebrate in Jenna’s life in the last year: graduation from High School along with the Take Stock in Children program; her first big trip out of the U.S. with Sydney to visit Briana in England; and starting college in a new unfamiliar place. You would be so proud of how well she has handled these significant life transitions.
You and Jenna shared common traits of determination and strong independence as a result of your childhood and young adult experiences. I think this was a big factor in your desire to bring Jenna into our family and provide her with a loving and stable home. And our family has been blessed in unexpected ways through the process.
So today we intentionally celebrate Jenna’s birthday and the joy and blessings she has brought to our family. And we pause to think of you and reflect on the impact you had on her life in the shorter than expected time that was shared. Happy Birthday, Jenna!
