Today was Jenna’s high school graduation party; and like so many things, we felt not only your absence but also your “legacy presence”! It was only two years ago that we had Sydney’s party, and you were so actively involved in planning, organizing, and implementing that event; even though it was just three months later that we received the cancer diagnosis which forever changed our lives.
Jenna and Sydney did all the planning from invitations, picking the theme, ordering decorations and props, and with help from me and their wonderful boyfriends, we managed to get everything ready to make the farm and house a wonderful party venue. You would have been so proud of them; they even picked up sticks and trimmed bushes on their own! Sometimes we can hear your voice in our heads and hearts, and we can feel your presence in the simple act of making and doing checklists. This is part of your legacy.
Despite Jenna’s worries due to late cancellations, there was a good turnout; and it was so refreshing to see the kids interact and mingle and play games of corn hole, ping pong, and on the Wii. I know you would have wanted to participate with them in those activities.
It was a good day!
