Kayaks Double Date (Day 110)

Today I watched Sydney, Jenna, and boyfriends, Huntley, and Carter as they made plans to take out the kayaks on the St Mary’s River. You would have been happy and proud to see this flurry of excitement and activity as they worked together to decide on and prepare the food for their picnic at the sand bar.

Family kayaking on a river

In truth, if you had been here, I suspect you would have been right in the middle of things as an active participant. You loved being out paddling on the river both for the natural beauty but also for the physical exercise. You were definitely a “multi-tasker”! That was one of the qualities we all loved about you.

I regret that I didn’t go kayaking and biking more often with you. Lord knows you tried to get me out and I realize now I was selfish and foolish because I missed out on at least two benefits: spending quality time together with you and exercise. You didn’t need extravagant trips or fancy dates. Instead, you craved simple acts of shared outdoor activities like paddling around on the kayaks or a bike ride or just a walk in the forest. That wasn’t too much to ask; and now, I can never get those opportunities back! How I wish that we could do a spontaneous “kayak date” right now!
