Poinsettias (Day 221)

The beautiful poinsettias that were given to us for your Celebration of Life Service by my wonderful former co-workers at Jacobs are still going strong. For over seven months now, they have sat on the front porch on either side of the front door as if in vigil. Obviously, they are not blooming, but the plants themselves look surprisingly healthy and green, despite the heat and inconsistent watering schedule.

You loved having poinsettias around the house at Christmas time, with their big bright red flowers, prominent berries, and deep green leaves. I think I heard you say that if you plant poinsettias in the ground they will come back and bloom the next winter. Perhaps I will do that with these. They were particularly beautiful specimens and hold special significance as they were given in memory of you. To see them come back in their full blooming splendor around the one-year anniversary of your loss would be a wonderful and poignant expression of renewal and beauty.
