This morning the girls and I had a private time under the family tree before spreading your ashes around the farm. We shared memories and reflections on you and your impact on our lives and others. We held hands and I prayed - giving thanks to God for your presence in our lives and asking for comfort and strength in the days ahead as we deal with the reality of you being gone.
I spread some ashes around the family tree and then we went out to the front pasture and each daughter spread some around the four main trees in the middle of the field. We shared a memory at each spot. Then we went to the honeycomb pasture and spread some in each small ring (around the edge where the horses would be and, in the middle, where you would stand.)
Afterward we gathered with Pam, Rhoda, Briana, and Sam at the arena and your mom spread some in the arena. We also put some on the azaleas by the edge of the side yard, in your raised garden, down at the front of the barn, and on the crepe myrtles along the fence.
May we always feel your presence in these sacred places that you put so much of yourself into, and may you continue to nurture the soil and trees and plants that are the heart and soul of this place as well as our hearts and memories of you.
