Sunset Skies (Day 251)

Sunset skies

I love seeing the colorful sunset skies when I walk down to the barn to let the horses out in the evenings.  At first, we were upset when our neighbors cleared the trees on that land behind us; but oh, how it opened up the view of the western sky like a canvas for the radiant sunset colors!  Tonight, I caught the last glowing ember of the sun breaking below the pine tree horizon with the patented hues of orange and golden-yellow highlights on the fading blue sky and grey toned clouds.

This evening ritual to let the horses out is the last chore of the farm day.  The horses see or hear me coming from afar and snort their excitement in greeting.   Most of the time Jake and Izzie are waiting patiently at the barn window, and I stop briefly to hold Jake’s head and look into his big soulful eyes.  I think of you often during those moments.  Sometimes with sadness at your absence, but mostly with pride and appreciation for the connection and impact you had on these horses, this farm, and me!

And so, as I finished the task of walking each horse out of their stall, through the barn, and over to the pasture gate I look at the western sky and it’s almost as if you are there in the warm glow watching over us and offering a good night blessing.
