Valentine's Day on the Front Porch (Day 71)

Valentine’s Day 2023, another first without you; and I am missing you, my love!

I am sitting on the front porch in an empty house where I grew up watching cars and walkers pass by. Very different from the front porch at the farm, where the dogs would be beside me and no neighbors in site. But there is a deep sense of history and connection in this place where my youth was spent in packs exploring the world around us on bicycles and foot - even crawling through caves and other things my parents never knew about.

It’s ironic that there needs to be a special day dedicated to love and lovers. For a true love, shouldn’t every day be Valentine's Day? Not necessarily the flowers and candy, but the love itself?

Grief makes you realize that we take so much for granted in our lives and especially our love relationships. I wish we had had more time to love each other better. That would have been my Valentine's Day wish for us.
